Food Review: Legends Steakhouse at The Franklin Hotel in Deadwood, SD

If you’re hankering for a melt-in-your-mouth filet mignon, the Franklin Hotel in Deadwood, South Dakota is your place. Wow, was it good!  And the prices are excellent.

Rich with history (it was opened in 1903) and luxurious finishes, visiting the Franklin Hotel gives you a sense that you’re in a place where the wild west once lived at its finest.

There’s usually a wait for breakfast or dinner but there’s plenty to keep you occupied in the meantime.  From craps & blackjack tables across the street at their sister property, The Silverado, to slot machines all around, you might just win some money to buy your dinner and a dessert.  The slots and tables were pretty tight when we were there but our good fortune came in the form of a scrumptious meal…. a hot baked potato and a tender filet!  It was so good, we went back the next morning for breakfast!

According to The Franklin Hotel’s web site, “Theodore Roosevelt, William Taft, John Wayne, Buffalo Bill Cody, Babe Ruth and world heavyweight champion John L. Sullivan were among the hotel’s guests in its heyday.”  Read more about the history of this fine hotel on their web site here.
